Teleoferta Car Wash
A car wash by day and a large active discotheque by night. They have a disc jockey and sometimes live bands. It has no walls. You can hang at the small bar and if there is more than 1 person they have many plastic tables and chairs to accommodate. This place can get quite packed with people. It is a typical Dominican experience. They also serve some typical foods on site. Everyone should try and go to a car wash for a night out if you want to mingle with the real Dominicans.

Teatro Nacional / National Theater
The new name of the theater is now Teatro Eduardo Brito as of July 2006
Built in 1973 these auditoriums have the perfect high fidelity acoustics that make all the  performances hale here an excellent event. The main theater, Sala Principal, the largest of the two auditoriums, can hold 1,600 people and features many top dance, music, and dramatic performances (ie:Plácido Domingo). The smaller auditorium, Sala Ravelo, will hold up to 175 persons and is mainly used for conferences and small speeches.
The Secretary of Culture was authorized by law to change the name from National Theater to the Eduardo Brito Theater. President Leonel Fernandez created law number 177-06 which was approved by the National Congress, that decided that instead of being called Teatro Nacional/ National Theater it is officially changed to Teatro Eduardo Brito ( Eduardo Brito (1906-1946)  is a Dominican born baritone. He returned to Dominican Republic with a "mental illness" which many say it was syphilis/ sifilis. He died a crazy man. Complete information on Brito here(new window) )There is a CD sometimes it is available on Amazon.com called "El Cantante Nacional" keep checking back occasionally to see if it is available) .

Discoteca Fantasy/ Fantasy Disco
This is a very popular disco for the Dominicans. It is very dark inside and the music is very loud. Here you can dance continuously to Merengue, Bachata and Salsa. The dance floor is quite small with a water fall running down the wall behind, it can be a fun place to dance. Since it is so dark you don't have to feel uncomfortable if you can't dance well, just work your way to the center of the crowd and forget about everything. You can request songs you want to hear. But first you have to get in. There is no cover charge but there is a dress code and the guys at the door don't care if your American or Dominican. Men are not permitted to enter if they have T shirts or Tank tops. They check for guns at the door also with a metal wand.  The waitresses wear some of the shortest shirts I've ever seen. The alcohol is not very expensive. If your drinking mixed drinks, get a bottle and mixers. Its much cheaper this way. Hours:  6PM til ?.

Barra Payan also known only as Payan
This is a 24 hour sandwich shop and the prices are very good. They are usually always crowded and quite noisy, especially late at night on the weekends. It is for sure a local hangout. It is a real experience to visit, even if it is only for their famous fresh squeezed juices and to see the place.Try the blended juice with carnation milk, with or without added sugar, these are wonderful and so refreshing. Many of the sandwiches are made on fresh baked pan de auga, a great crusty bread.  If you do not know Spanish it is really no problem. You can just point. Pick something on the giant wall menu, have a little adventure. The first sandwich on the menu is their special and it is quite good. I usually ask for extra pickles/ pepinillos as they have good pickles. They do not sell alcohol.
