Hotel Palacio originally was owned by Buenaventura Baez (wikipedia link) (July 14, 1812 – March 14, 1884). Baez was president of the Dominican Republic five times, between the years 1849 to 1878. The family of Baez lived in the colonial house, including Dr. Ramon Baez, president of the Dominican Republic in 1914.
The Boutique Hotel Palacio has occupied this building for over 40 years. They remodeled the hotel in 1990 while keeping all the historical charm.
