Colonial City Handicraft and Antiques flea Market Every Sunday at Plaza Maria de Toledo between Calle Isabel la Católica and Calle las Damas, Colonial Zone, Santo Domingo. There are things old and new for sale by individuals set up here informally.

German Market at The Dominican-German Center, at Calle Isabel la Católica #212, Colonial Zone, Telephone 809-221-8475. The first Saturday of the month from 11AM to 3PM.

Arts and Crafts Fair  held every Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Colonial Zone. See artists up close and buy their designs.  Some very unique items that make great gifts. Location - Plazoleta Fray Bartolome de las Casas on streets Padre Billini on the corner Arzobispo Meriño, Colonial Zone. time - 9 to 9

Grupo Bonje at the Ruinas - Every Sunday Bonje and friends play son music and more at the Ruinas de San Francisco in Colonial Zone. Sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism. Starts at 5pm and the concert is always free. There are tables available but you must get there early. There is also many food stands. This is a weekly local tradition.

Free Folklore Events - Every Friday and Saturday in Plaza España, Colonial Zone there are free Folklore Festival concerts and events. Take a walk there in the evening to see whats going on. Sponsored by The Ministry of Tourism

Holidays - The Minister of Work announced the calendar for the celebration of the holidays for the year 2011 according to the law 139-97 / Días Festivos - El Ministerio de Trabajo anuncia el calendario para la celebración de los días feriados para el año 2011, establecidos en la Ley 139-97.

Janurary/ Enero
1 New Year's Day
10 Día de los Santo Reyes Magos - Epifania / Three Kings Day - Epiphany (official 6th)(long weekend 6th to the 10th)
21 Our Lady of Altagracia Day.  (more information on Altagracia) (long holiday weekend 21st to the 24th)
24 Duarte Day (more information on Duarte). (official day is the 26th)

February/ Febrero
*1 thru 27 Las Fiestas de Carnaval Dominicano / Dominican Carnival Parties
3 Chinese New Year (celebrations for the year of the rabbit in China Town)
27 Día de la Independencia / Independence Day - Día de la Bandera / Flag Day .Dominicans celebrate February 27, 1844 as their Independence Day This the day the country declared its independence again and retook the name República Dominicana (Dominican Republic). A constitution modeled on that of the United States was put forth in November 1844.

March/ Marzo

Be aware that on the long weekends the cities usually empty out as most people head to the beaches or the country. Hotels are usually booked to capacity. The roads are very congested with people coming and going.

1 - Sunday - New Year's Day
9 - Monday - Día de los Santo Reyes Magos - Epifania / Three Kings Day - Epiphany (official date is the 6th)(long weekend 6th to the 9th) (what is 3 Kings Day?)
15 - to End of March - Whale Watching (the best place to observe is the Samana Bay)
21 - Saturday - Our Lady of Altagracia Day.  (more information on Altagracia and a photo slide show of the Basilica de Higuey)
30 - Monday - Duarte Day (more information on Duarte). (Official day is the 26th) (long weekend celebrations 27th to 30th)

February/ Febrero
*1 thru 29 Las Fiestas de Carnaval Dominicano / Dominican Carnival Parties Carnival Dominicano/ Dominican Carnival celebrations happen all month. The weekends are when different communities hold their parades and celebrations. Usually the ultimate parade on the Malecon in Santo Domingo with the best of the best is held the first Sunday in March.

24 - Monday - Día de las Mercedes / Our Lady of Mercedes Day.(more information on Las Mercedes) (since Mercedes Day falls on a Monday this year it will make for a long weekend Friday the 21st  Monday the 24th)

November/ Noviembre
